What After Party?
In any given episode, after the traditional interview ends I’ll give the author the option to keep talking about the book, but with no barriers or guardrails - anything goes. Spoilers will be discussed! Plot twists, endings, ANYTHING. This chat will be cut into its own video and posted here on the Substack for paid subscribers.
What gave you this bananas idea?
Selfishly, while I have access to the person who created the thing I just read, I want to talk about all the juicy things that typically are verboten to discuss in a normal interview. You know what? Often, so does the author! And to my knowledge, nobody is really doing this. Nobody discusses the spoilery bits we’re all afraid of spoiling.
That changes now.
Why paywall it?
I was trying to imagine a way where if anyone managed to hear this discussion, they had to have gone through a significant effort to be able to press that Play button. Essentially, it’s to absolve me of any blame if someone spoils the damn book for themselves by listening. That said, even $1/month buys access, so hopefully that’s not too much to ask.
More to come…
Currently, I have my After Party discussion with Zoje Stage about DEAR HANNA posted, and as I interview more folks I’ll add theirs. Anyone who is a paid subscriber of any amount will get notified when new episodes are available.
Finally… I’ve done this before
Way back when I was doing the podcast BOOKED., we had a Patreon exclusive feature where when we reviewed a book, we would record an extra bit where we talked spoilers for that book. It was a fun way to kind of finish the conversation we couldn’t finish in the main episode because we were dancing around spoilers. I loved it, and I think the supporters liked it as well.
Toward the end of the run of Booked., we started to do spoiler interviews. We did one with Josh Malerman for MALORIE, one with Stephen Graham Jones for THE ONLY GOOD INDIANS, and one with Zoje Stage for WONDERLAND.
I loved it! And hopefully, I can bring the energy we started into what I’m doing now.
